The Handphibians, a community Brazilian percussion school and performance ensemble, has been a part of my life for over 20 years. Since 2001, I have been a performer, videographer, event producer, musical director and secretary for the this amazing ensemble.
In lieu of our yearly Carnaval celebration, I decided to tap into our huge archive, to assemble a virtual event. I also used this chance to shoot a 4 part mini documentary about the groups origins, ethos, community and our rehearsal space.
This video is a compilation of past performances, archival photos and my first solo documentary/story telling endeavor. I edited the entire final video, captured/edited most of the previous performances, and compiled hundreds of assets from hundreds of members. It was a huge undertaking, but an amazing opportunity to showcase an organization that has been so influential to my upbringing.
